Research Assistant
Programmer and Web Developer
Oct 2019- Aug 2020
Before I developed DataLab12's website I started out working as a Research Assistant under the instruction of Dr. Jelena Tesic and Dr. Lucas Rusnak, both of whom I had taken classes with at Texas State University. I was hired after completing both Dr. Rusnak's and Dr. Tesic's classes with As. I like to think that telling Dr. Tesic I ordered pizza with python got me the job.
Throughout October, I began working on the project titled: "Characterizing Attitudinal Network Graphs through Frustration Cloud". This dealt extensively with graph theory, aiming to draw inferences on networks able to modeled as undirected graphs by finding connections amongst the data after normalizing it. This metric is called status, and can give one an idea of a individual nodes "place" amongst its piers in a network. Its a very general measure, and is respective of its dataset. I liked to think of status in the more literal sense- as a nodes "status" in its network. We studied how this metric characterized notorious open source datasets like the Wikipedia election dataset.
After making significant progress on our research, we decided to apply for South by Southwest. We passed the qualifying round at our university, and began preparing for South by Southwest in Austin, TX. Unfortunately, as SXSW approached, so did COVID-19. The event was cancelled and our preparation halted. Up tp that point, I had a prepared a landing page for the old data lab website.
About 5 months later, after our research had slowed down and I had taken a less active role in research, Dr. Jelena Tesic came to me with a request to remake her website to modern standards. I decided to try Webflow for the first time, as I had heard a lot about it.
These pictures/gifs are the results of my efforts.
